A Gift Guide for the Bisexual Wife in your life ♥️
Curated by your favourite Bisexual Girlfriend AKA moi!
Every year, it’s the same thing.
Once American Thanksgiving comes and goes, the Holiday season starts creeping in, and so does my usual anxiety for gift giving. But also gift receiving. Explanation.
I’m a tough person to give gifts to. My partner says it. My family says it. My friends say it. It is impossible to give me anything. And I bet I’m not the only one. I’ve talked with friends about this. We have very particular tastes, and we like buying our own gifts. We often treat ourselves to beautiful objects, experiences, and other little luxuries, making it difficult for others to figure out what could make us happy.
This year, I decided to be proactive about it. The idea started sprouting in my mind, and I started researching and asking the same friends deemed by their entourage as a gift puzzle. And I ended up with this.
The Bisexual Wife/Girlfriend Gift Guide.
What makes this gift guide bisexual? Absolutely nothing other than most of my friends and moi-même are bisexuals. I could have called this “The Cool Girl Gift Guide,” the “Montréal It-Girl Gift Guide, “or the “Millennial Independent Woman Gift Guide,” all of these could have been great titles. But this gift guide has a solid bisexual indie girlie energy, and I decided to roll with it.
So, ITER fam, if you are reading me, I’m pretty sure you know at least one other person who’s hard to satisfy. Probably a very indie best friend who’s in love with Hozier, an unusually trendy cousin, a sister who has everything, a fantastic new mom who likes pretty things, and/or a partner who exudes intense bisexual wife energy. Want to know how to please them this year? Well, saddle up! We’re going down the perfect list of gifts for the cool ones in your life.
(It’s a long one, so put André 3000’s New Blue Sun and scroll through this list.)
Written By Sally Rooney T-shirt by Moonkissed Collective
At this point, if you don’t know who Sally Rooney is, you’ve missed out on a lot. Author of Conversation with Friends, Normal People, and Beautiful World, Where Are You?, Rooney has been named as the voice of a generation — Millennials in this case. Whether you agree with this or not, chances are the nifty bisexual in your life has read her novels, watched the Normal People limited series, and fawned multiple times over Paul Mescal. Why not encourage her love for dramatic and toxic literary relationships by offering her this very cool t-shirt by Moonkissed Collective? She’ll never thank you enough. (PSA: I’ve bought it for myself)
Fluo and Steam Blessing Manicure Pendant Necklace
Local fantastic jewelry brand Fluo and Steam offers a variety of double-faced pendants that will probably trick your aunt into thinking you’re wearing a religious medal when wearing a hot girl around your neck. My very fashionable sister-in-law introduced me to the brand (she has this wine pendant), and I’ve been obsessed with its vintage look since then. Handcrafted in Montréal, this fabulous local gift will find its rightful place around your favourite person’s neck.
Grown Alchemist Orange Peel and Vanilla Hand Cream
Winter. Cold. Hydration. No need to say more. This luxurious hand cream from Grown Alchemist smells like an orange creamsicle and leaves a smooth finish without any residue on the skin. Who doesn’t like to have the softest skin during wintertime? Go get it now!Universal Flowering Fig Leaf Perfume
Canadian perfume house Universal Flowering has acquired a cult following from perfume lovers. Let me tell you: any of their very niche smells will delight the trendy-artsy-bisexual woman in your life. But, if you have to go with a safe choice, Fig Leaf might be the one. With notes of fig leaf (duh), petitgrain, orange blossom, and musk, this concoction will put a spell on anyone on her path.
My friend Hannah came up with the idea.
As much as I love plants, I have no green thumb, so unkillable or low-care plants are a must. Alma Plantes has a great selection of easy-to-care-for plants! :) Be kind to your plant-loving-bisexual wife. She, too, might kill them inadvertently.
Peauésie skin spa - safe space’s Facials
Nathalie, one of my ex-colleagues, is maybe the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen. Her features are exquisite, but her skin… HER SKIN IS BEAUTIFUL. She looks like a doll (a very edgy-trendy doll). While we were returning from a 5 à 7, she revealed her secret: facials by Peauésie, one of Montréal’s most incredible skin spas. Despina, the owner, takes excellent care of your experience, and her facials start at 65$, making them accessible to all! Skincare and wellness don’t have to be a luxury with Peauésie!
Local hat designer Heirloom made the perfect iconic beanie for everyone, not only your bisexual bestie. Soft and fluffy like a cloud, this warm and beautiful hat keeps getting compliments. A staple for winter, fall, and some spring, you’ll never part from it! (True story. I have one.)
This bag is everywhere. This bag is the trendiest thing. It comes in many colours with names like “pale neon,” “washed sage,” or “lapis blue.” But also it is enormous. It’s HUMONGOUS. Your girlfriend will be able to carry the following
a complete outfit
three books
her macbook
snacks
her notebook
her makeup
her skincare
probably her cat, too.
Kielh’s iconic moisturizer is everyone’s favourite day cream. I come from the land of snow. I come from The North™️. This is my cream. This is my Graal. This is how I keep looking like I’m 25 when I’m turning 33 soon. This is the cream that makes my skin look HEALTHY, which is why I don’t put on much makeup. So, yeah. I’m sold on this. Buy it as a stocking stuffer. It’s worth it.
Vinyls!
This is pretty self-explanatory. Suppose someone in your entourage had Burlington, Cambridge, or Berkeley in their Spotify Wrapped. In that case, they probably go through bins at a vinyl shop, romanticizing their life, thinking someone will fall in love with them as Sufjan Stevens plays in the background. If you know someone like this, buy them vinyls, preferably from Bandcamp or a local vinyl shop like Le Vacarme, Aux 33 Tours, 180g or The Death of Vinyl.
My nails are legendary. I get compliments when I’m out; they grab attention. They are as good as jewelry. Thanks to my magnificent Nail Artist and friend, Luna Malka, I’ve got the best nails in town. Luna founded Studio LAK, Montréal’s coolest beauty studio, promoting respect and inclusivity in beauty. The people who work there are fantastic and care about their clients. Luna made my nails stronger and consequentially made my self-confidence grow. Anyone deserves beautiful nails by Luna for Christmas!
Cool Girl Books
I’ve mentioned it above. If you offer your girl a huge bag, be sure she can fill it with cool girl books. What do I mean by this? Well, a selection of books will appeal to the Main Character she is in your life. And as the mysterious, indie, funny, glasses-wearing main character of my life, here’s a selection of books I suggest you get from your local bookstore.
Apathee Studio Smiley Bag Vase
Who doesn’t like a good vase referencing the iconic smiley plastic bag? I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t want a touch of nostalgia in their living room/bedroom/office/home, really. And this is not the only vase worth buying from Apathee Studios. Lyrica, the artist behind the studio, offers a selection of fun little vases that will please any maximalist aficionado in your household.
Pastel pens. That’s it. This doesn’t need any more explanation. They look cool, their colour are vibrant, and the set is the perfect gift for anyone who misses pastel gel pens. Remember pastel gel pens? We used to have glitter gel pens, pastel gel pens, multicolour ink gel pens, scented gel pens… The ink used to get everywhere. These are the non-messy versions of them.
A Weekend Getaway at Northbranch Chalet
I really forget the importance of winding down. Leaving the city. Living my best city girl life to have a romantic dreamy writing retreat in the countryside. Thank God for Maude Nepveu-Villeneuve, editor and co-owner of Les Éditions de Ta Mère, who reminded me of this. But what is the perfect retreat? Well, Rama Sow, the brilliant woman behind The Study, Le Déli, Open House conference, and Dropout Records, suggested recently Northbranch Chalet as a place to get away from the hustle. And I’m taking it all in. It’s gorgeous, isolated, but with wi-fi (so not totally cut out) and decor that will make any of your bisexual girly bestie jealous. So book a weekend there. And let her take all the pictures for her instagram.
Honorable mentions (stuff that didn’t make it to the list, but still worth it!)
- suggestion)
HEY. If you made it to the end, you deserve a prize. But go ahead, treat your bisexual girl right. She deserves it. Any of these gifts are 100% winners.
Do you think I forgot something? Please let me know!
On se reparle bientôt. ;)
